Opening Newsletter August 2015

Dear Merryhill Families,

It seems like yesterday that I was waving you good-bye and telling you to have a great summer.  And in just another week I will be waving you in and welcoming you back to a new school year. Hopefully, everyone had time to get away to relax and spend some quality time with family.  Now take a deep breath and get ready for the next adventure.

Please join me in welcoming the following new teachers to our Merryhill family.  As you can see, l have reached across the country to find the very best teachers to join our Merryhill family.   And here they are:

KINDERGARTEN – MRS. MARYANN PETERSON

Mrs. Peterson has been in education for 23 years with six of those years in Kindergarten. She hails from Central Michigan University and has completed her Masters of Education degree through the University of Phoenix.  Mrs. Peterson and her husband, who recently retired from the Air Force, have just moved this month from Nebraska to settle in Nevada.

FIRST GRADE – MS. NIKKOLE HOTZE

Ms. Hotze has over ten years of education experience and has been teaching first grade for the past two years.  She earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from Colorado State University in English and completed her Masters of Education at Regis University.  Ms. Hotze moved here just two years ago with her twin daughters from Fort Collins, Colorado.

THIRD GRADE – MS. JULIE WEST

Ms. West has a Bachelor of Arts in Social Studies from Buena Vista University.  She has spent the last ten years substitute teaching while completing her education license.  She has recently moved to Las Vegas from northern Iowa to join our Merryhill team.  She has one son who will be a Senior in High School.

FOURTH GRADE – Mrs. Diana Gerson

Mrs. Gerson has a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education and English/Spanish. She has taught in the Metropolitan Nashville Public Schools as a Reading Teacher, Fifth grade teacher and Instructional Specialist.  She is excited to be moving her family to Las Vegas for the opportunity to join the Merryhill team.

We are looking forward to you joining us on Friday, August 14th for Orientation Day  between 9:00 am and noon.  Each classroom teacher will have a brief informal presentation in their Room at 10:00 a.m.  If you are a new family to the elementary school please stop by Room 5 for your PTO welcome gift and allow us to answer your questions.  The PTO will be holding their annual Gently Used Uniform Sale in the Library.  Those of you who ordered supply kits  may pick them up in the main office.  Also, supply lists will be available for those who choose to purchase their own.  Just a word of caution if you are purchasing new back packs.  The large (luggage style) wheel packs are extremely difficult to maneuver for our younger children especially with the narrow sidewalks and steps.  I would recommend that you purchase the smaller roller backpack in lieu of the luggage style.

Thank you for sharing your greatest treasure, your children,  with us and supporting our school family.  My door is always open to you.

Theresa Gotay, Principal
