November 2016 Newsletter

Dear Parents,

Parent/Teacher communication is an essential factor for a student to be successful in school. You recently received directions to access your student’s grades online. Jupiter, our new online grading program, allows you to check your child’s progress at any time. If you are having any difficulty working with the program please contact your child’s classroom teacher for assistance. On November 10th we will have our first Parent/Teacher Conference of the year. Grades provide a limited amount of information, and we recognize you may need more of the total picture for you to work with your child. Conferences give parents a chance to ask questions about the student’s learning and classroom expectations. It is an opportunity to exchange information about your child that may assist the teacher to work more effectively with the student. This is a time to resolve concerns, and most importantly, a time to celebrate successes.

We are pleased to announce that “First in Math”, another online resource for teachers, parents and students is up and running. Your child’s classroom teacher sent home a letter explaining how to access this program from home. Students move at their own pace and master math skills ranging from one-step addition to multi-step algebra. Comprehensive content is presented in a game format that gets the children excited about math! Your child will have time to work on this program at school but they are encouraged to use it at home as well.

Speaking of excitement, the PTO has sponsored several exciting events this past fall starting with Movie Night, Trunk O’ Treat, and coming this month is the “Amazing Animal Assembly, Book Fair and Family Skate Night. I am most thankful to the PTO and the many parent volunteers who support these activities for our students. I am truly appreciative of your time, efforts and generosity. Without your help Merryhill Elementary would be just a school and not the loving family that we are, so thank you.

Gratefully Yours,

Theresa Gotay
