FIERCE at Work

Sacramento Award-Winning Author Featured at Elementary Assembly

During our Friday morning assembly this week, students in grades K-5 will have the opportunity to hear an engaging presentation from local award winning children’s book author, Kate David. Mrs. David will share with Midtown students all about her journey as an author and how she incorporates FIERCE into her writing. Not only will students enjoy listening to a story read by Mrs. David, they will learn more about the writing and illustrating process from the disciplinarian herself.  Read below for more information about Kate David and her book series, the Magical Hat.  To purchase your child a personalized autographed copy and/or their own magical hat, please complete the form attached to this week’s newsletter.  Forms and payments must be turned into the front office by Thursday, November 17th.

Murphy and the Magical Hat & McKay and the Magical Hat book series were both awarded GOLD from Mom’s Choice Awards in October 2014. The first book in the series, Murphy and the Magical Hat was awarded third place in the Feathered Quill Book Reviews BEST CHILDREN’S BOOK ILLUSTRATED category in February 2014. When a rainy day threatens to spoil a little girl’s plans to play outside, her disappointment quickly disappears when her mother shares a “magical” hat with her.  This “magical” hat has the power to whisk the little girl away to any place she imagines. Where will her imagination take her? McKay and the Magical Hat is another engaging story with a magical theme from award-winning author, Kate David.   In this second book from “…the magical hat” series, readers are reintroduced to Murphy and meet her younger sister, McKay.  Sparked from a conversation with a little boy at school, McKay finds herself wondering what she can be when she grows up?  As the reader begins the imaginative journey with McKay to explore just some of the things she can be when she grows up, they are reminded to embrace and break their own stereotypes about careers little girls dream to have.  What will McKay decide to be when she grows up? In October 2015, Kate David Books released a Magical Hat for children to wear. Worn alone or while reading the books, let the Magical Hat inspire your child, engage their imagination and empower them to dream big!  Where will your imagination take you today?

Kate currently resides in Sacramento, CA with her children and husband, Jeff.  She received her BS of Journalism from the E.W. Scripps School of Journalism at Ohio University.  Kate donates her time and books to several deserving charities in the Sacramento area.  Literacy and writing are her passions.  She spends her time caring for Murphy, McKay & Maddox and working on the next book for the “…the Magical Hat” series.
