For Parents

Sick Policy

Flu and cold season is here!  Please adhere to our sick policy.  We strive to keep a safe and clean environment for all of our students and staff.  As per our Parent Handbook , a sick child must stay home where he/she is most relaxed and comfortable. Children may be sent home if they have any of the specific symptoms listed on this form. In addition, a child must be free of all these specified symptoms for at least one school day and up to 48 hours  before he/she can be admitted back to Merryhill Schools at the Principals discretion. These symptoms are as follow:

  • A fever of 101 degrees or more.
  • Vomiting within the previous 24-hour period.
  • Diarrhea within the previous 24-hour period, including recurring episodes at school.
  • Heavy nasal discharge indicative of infection.
  • Constant cough or sore throat.
  • Fussy, cranky and generally not himself/herself.
  • Skin rash, excluding minor diaper rash.
  • Head lice.
  • Symptoms of a communicative disease.

Following an illness, a child may return to school once he/she has either been seen by a doctor or it has been determined that the illness is not contagious. (A Pediatrician’s clearance may be requested, as necessary.)
