Merryhill School June Newsletter

Dearest families,

Welcome to the new school year 2017/2018.  We have started off nicely with our new students.  In the first few days of this month we are getting to know each other, and the children are getting adjusted to their new environment.  We have amazing leaning themes coming up with many hands on learning activities.  For our new families this is new information, but for our returning families this is a reminder.  We will not have homework assignments over the summer.  We still have academics throughout the summer months because we do not want the children to forget what they learned over the school year.  We will continue giving out homework assignments on August 14, 2017.  If you would like to know what your child is learning throughout the week please take a look at the parent board in the classroom.  This will tell you all of the subjects and skills the children will learn in that week.  You can also review the teacher’s lesson plan on the parent board to see the learning activities the teachers have planned to incorporate the subjects and skills.  If you have any questions please feel free to reach out to us.
In May we raised $1,200 for St Jude’s Children’s hospital.  Thank you for participating in the Trike-a-Thon and supporting the great “Giving Project”!!  We will have another “Giving Project” in July for a non-profit charity called “Loved Twice”.  More details to come…
As promised, I told you I would share pictures of “Paint the Principal”.  In April we made a goal for the children to sell 200 books or more in the Scholastic Book Fair.  If they did, they would be able to “Paint the Principal”.  They had so much fun painting me!

We have an exciting activity happening this week!  “A new Twist” balloon artist will come this Wednesday to make awesome balloon art for the children.  They will be here from 9:30 – 11:30 am.  We are so excited for them to come!  Next week on Thursday we will have our Ice Cream Social at 3:00 pm for the children too.  Take a look below at the calendar of events so you can see all of the fun activities happening for the next few months.

Quick reminders:
Please remember to sign in and out every day in the classroom binder!  This is extremely important because we use this binder in case of an emergency!  The sign in and out binder is not going to last very long, but the concept of signing in and out will continue.  Starting this week we will have parents come to the office and create a passcode on the iPad because we are going to start digital sign in and out soon!  I will send out an email later to give more details on how to do this.
Please put your child’s name on all sippy cups and water bottles.  We do not want the children drinking from other children’s cups.
Please make sure you fill out a sun screen form in the office before dropping off the sunscreen with the teachers.  The children are not allowed to keep sun screen in their cubby or back pack.   This is the same for any lotions and medication.  Please make sure all medications get checked into the preschool office.  Medication and lotions need to be kept out of reach of children at all times.  One last reminder, please put your sheet and blanket for nap time in a bag labeled with your child’s name.  If it is not in a bag and does not have a name on it, then we do not know who it belongs to 🙂 Thank you for your cooperation!
As always, if you have any questions or concerns my door is always open. We are here to help you and “our” children in any way we can. Everyone at Merryhill is special and important to us. Let us make this a great school year!
“All the flowers of tomorrow are in the seeds we sow today.”

Parent Referral Program:
If there’s one thing parents love to do, it’s talk about their children’s successes.
When friends ask you about your child’s experiences at Merryhill School, what type of success stories do you share? Do you mention the personal and educational discoveries your child is making thanks to our advanced curriculum? Do you talk about the new levels of self and social confidence your child has gained thanks to our encouraging atmosphere?
*For every new child you refer who enrolls at our school for three months, you’ll receive one FREE week of tuition for your child*.
It’s our way of saying thanks for doing what comes naturally – singing the praises of your child and sharing your experiences with the Merryhill School difference!!
