Celebrations help our students meet our learning component in “Community and Environment”. If you would like to share a family tradition with our students, please let us know. Embracing diversity is a social skill that will help our students in the long run when traveling or building friendships.

We would like to thank all the parents who joined us in May 2019 for the “Week of the Young Child Activities”.

On July 3 , 2019 your children can dress up red, white, and blue to celebrate our American Heritage. We will have a small parade to show their outfits and American Spirit. Please bring a blanket/umbrella to share as we will be having a picnic style lunch. Please feel free to bring snacks to share (small cheese sandwiches, fruits, salads, pies, watermelon, etc). The picnic will be from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm.

Kids Helping Kids

Every summer our students chose an organization to help that supports children. This summer we chose the Second Harvest Food Bank because they feed children in the summer months when schools are closed. This year we committed to filling up 3 barrels of food and helping in an online campaign. Some our students estimates of cans needed to fill the barrels were as follows:

Charles/100 cans, Shanaya/ 1000 cans, Suraj/121,000 cans, Bei/1001

If we can get up to 75% of the donations our students will have a snowcone party from the kona ice cream truck!   https://www.kona-ice.com/flavorwave/nutrition.aspx

To donate online please go to the following website:

http://fundraise.shfb.org/site/TR/Kid/General?team_id=2080&pg=team&fr_id=1110

Waterplay for Summer!

We are a year round school, but we are definitely going to enjoy the summer months! We will be having “Water Play Days” in July and August every Friday from 3 to 5 pm. Please bring a bathing suit, towels, sunscreen, water shoes, and an extra bag for their wet clothes. Our students will be enjoying different forms of water play including a water fall, water balloons toss, sensory play, etc.

Operation Christmas Child –

Look for this article in the Mercury Newspaper ! Front page of the Milpitas Post! Facebook page of Milpitas Mayor Rich Tran

Every year our students talk about hunger and basic needs awareness. Our students collect basic needs items such as socks, shoes, clothing, toys, educational supplies, and etc. for a child in the same age group as themselves. They sort all the items during a “Packing Party” and pack enough to fill a shoebox for their international friends overseas. We would like to thank all the parents who helped participate in this event. The student collected over 75 boxes for children overseas.

Reading Program

Reading Program/Homework  is meant to be a positive experience for your childIts not mandatory to do the homework. The program was created for a social emotional development experience. Setting aside a specific time daily for your children reduces behavioral issues in the long run. We are just giving parents some activities to do during this time.  Please set aside a 20-30 minutes per night for your Prek or Prek2 child  and 10-20 minutes for Intermediates. If your child is refusing to practice writing, there are other alternatives; playdough, legos, setting up the table, folding laundry, helping to wash dishes, or clean off the dinner table. All these activities use their small motor skills and they are still building their muscles in their fingers. The book does not need to be read per verbatim. Have your child try and guess what is happening in the book. If your children want to talk with you about something this is also a good time to do so. Let us know if you are needing support.

Prek2 Uniforms

Uniforms can be purchased from the website below for the Prek2 class:

The bottoms can be purchased at Walmart, Target, or Durable wear uniforms and must be either navy blue or khaki. The tops must be purchased from Queensboro uniforms and can be light blue, hunter green, or burgundy. You can have items shipped here to avoid shipping charges. All students are required to wear uniforms in the Prek2 classroom Monday through Thursday. On Friday they get a free dress day. If you are planning to continue our Merryhill Elementary, it is recommended to purchase the burgundy shirts. We will start implementing uniforms starting September 2019 so parents still have time to get their uniforms.

Amazing Athletes

Amazing Athletes has started. Parents still have an opportunity to sign up for soccer classes.
You can go online to www.amazingathletes.com/southbay/locations/ to sign up or www.amazingathletes.com/southbay/pay_online/to pay for classes.
