Ms. Marivina Van Zandt - Middle School Science

Hello! My Name is Marivina Van Zandt and i have been an educator for 10 years. I have taught in the Philippines, South Korea and i just recently moved from Texas where i spent the last 6 years teaching middle school science. This is going to be my first year here at Merryhill School and I am very thrilled to get to know and work with you and your students. Classroom Notes

Welcome! Let’s have a moment of Science! List down below are some of the major topics that we will be learning in class! Hope to see you in my classroom! But for now have an AWESOME and GREAT Summer!!!

5th Grade- In 5th grade, we get to learn a little bit about the four different sciences which is Biology, Earth Science, Chemistry and Physics. This is a very exciting curriculum since there are tons of hands on activity we will perform in class, such as making different kinds of mixtures, observing physical and chemical changes and a lot more.

6th Grade- In 6th Grade our main focus is all about Earth Science. Wherein, the students will be learning all about space and Earth’s geological events.

7th Grade- In 7th Grade, our main focus if all about Life Science, where the students will learn all about cells, the 10 major body systems, how an organism interact with its environment, genetics, fossils and a lot more. Also, 7th graders does frog dissection in order to apply their knowledge of the body systems.

8th Grade- In 8th grade our main focus are Chemistry and Physics. The students will learn how to balance chemical equation, different types of reactions, familiarized themselves with the periodic table also learn about how elements form bonds with other elements. They will also learn a little bit about Physics Laws like Newton’s Law of Motions, Waves and Electromagnetic Spectrum and a lot more.
