Ms. Ellen Lloyd - Fourth Grade

Hello and welcome to fourth grade!  My name is Ellen Lloyd and I love teaching fourth grade!  I was a military kid, so I moved around a bit as a child but we moved to Sacramento when I myself was in fourth grade, so I consider Sacramento to be my hometown.  I earned my Bachelors of Arts in English from Brigham Young University and then later received my teaching credential from CalStateTEACH.  I am eager to implement all of the latest teaching practices that I have learned into our class this year.  I love reading, Marvel, Star Wars, traveling, and hiking with my dog, Steve!

My teaching philosophy is to teach to the 21st century student by providing learning opportunities that garner high engagement through technology, hands-on experiences, and fun!  I truly believe that these key components will help foster lifelong learners.

In Language Arts, we will be exploring fictional and informational texts, with novel studies in both whole class and small group settings.  I also am a bit of a “grammar nerd” and look forward to the challenge of showing the students that learning all the peculiarities of the English language can be fun!

This year in writing, students will be completing their very own written “masterpieces” in the genres of personal narrative, opinion, fiction, and informational texts.  I, for one, love time spent in the classroom writing because it is so fun to see what the students come up with!

I love teaching Math because there are so many opportunities to incorporate games and technology, so we will be using both as we explore our math for the year in whole group instruction and small group centers. We will be building on prior knowledge of place values, multiplication, division, fractions, decimals, and geometry.  We’ll just be using bigger numbers!

Fourth grade is such a fun year to live in Sacramento because we get to study California history and we literally live in the very hub of California history! We will be learning all things indigenous people, missions, Gold Rush, and geography.

In science, we will be getting into the nitty-gritty with hands-on experience as we examine plant and animal parts, rock patterns, energy, and wave patterns.

Please see the “Class Note” section for our typical weekly schedule.

Homework will be assigned on Mondays and be due on Fridays.

Please feel free to reach out by email with any questions or concerns and I will do my utmost to respond promptly.
