Ms. Katherine Rappa - 5th Grade

Welcome to 5th grade! My name is Ms. Rappa and I am so proud to be a part of the Merryhill family. I have been an elementary school teacher for 2 years, this is my second year teaching 5th grade at Merryhill. Previously, I taught preschool while attending college. I achieved my bachelors degree and teaching credential from Concordia University in Irvine, CA. My favorite thing about teaching 5th grade is the fun content that we get to explore including energy and matter in science, the birth of America through restoration in social studies, properties of multiplications in math, and all of the exciting books that we get to read for our novel study units! (My favorite being Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone.) I promote social-emotional growth in my classroom along with standards-based curriculum. It is important for students to learn how to regulate emotions, set goals, and take responsibility for their learning so that they have the tools to become lifelong learners. “Teachers who love teaching, teach children to love learning.” -Robert John Meehan
