Welcome back… I hope everyone enjoyed their summer! My summer was good. I did a ton of traveling and had some much needed down time with the family.
With the start of a new year, I am reminded how blessed I am to be doing something that I truly love. Ever since I was young, I knew that if I didn’t make it as a professional athlete that I would do something that would make a difference in children’s lives. What better way to do that than by combing my two passions in life… sports and children, and become a Physical Education Teacher. There is no better feeling in the world than teaching young people the value of living a healthy and active lifestyle.
I will be starting my 22nd year here at Merryhill School where I first started as a Teachers Assistant before becoming the school’s Physical Education Teacher in 2000. This year I will be over seeing the volleyball program and resuming as coach of the girls varsity volleyball team.
In my spare time I love reading, working out, watching old school movies, (Goonies and Karate Kid), spending time with my beautiful family, and of course coaching baseball.
As you can tell….I have a passion for coaching baseball and have been doing it for over 20 years now. I have coached all levels from Little League (8 year olds) to college baseball. I have had great fortune of seeing over two dozen of my past players make it to the major leagues. Brandon Crawford (SF Giants), Joc Pederson (Los Angeles Dodgers), Jason Castro (Houston Astros), Brett Wallace (Houston Astros) and Tyson Ross (San Diego Padres), Joe Ross (Washington Nationals), and Tyler Goedell (Philadelphia Phillies).
Once again I have the privilege and honor to be working with my fellow coach and friend Coach and Athletic Director Jorge Arcienga. This year we are very happy to welcome a new team member to our PE family Nick Hailey. I feel with all three of us working hand in hand that we will the kids the best opportunity to develop their athletic skills and get the most out of their Physical Education Experience. I look forward to the 2016-2017 school year being the best year yet!
